I lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from 1979 to 1987 - a total of 8 years.  My parents retired, and decided to also move to Florida - but on the "west coast" in Clearwater.  My wife's parents also lived in South Florida.  Both parents still live there, so we take our yearly "trek" out to visit them.  Typically, we travel in February to avoid the "blackout" days, and we usually use frequent flyer miles.

Each time we visit, we have to drive between Ft. Lauderdale and Clearwater, typically by driving through the Everglades National Park.  Once we reach the west coast (traveling from Ft. Lauderdale), we love to stop at Corkscrew Swamp Audubon Sanctuary for a visit.  A number of the photos shown here were taken at that site.  If you are ever in the vicinity, set aside a few hours for a visit!

Most of the photos are of various birds.  Thanks to Kay Ellington and her son Kirk  from Florida for sending me the names of these birds!  I think it is a significant improvement to actually be able to label them!
